Taxonomy Code Set Update for 2023

Updated January 2023

The NUCC has released the semi-annual update to the Health Care Provider Taxonomy code set, which will go into effect on April 1, 2023. The Health Care Provider Taxonomy Code Setup can be found here: NUCC Taxonomy.

New Codes added 1/1/2023, effective 4/1/2023

1835C0206X - Under the Pharmacy Service Providers; Pharmacist was added:
Cardiology
A licensed pharmacist who has demonstrated specialized knowledge and skill in direct patient care to ensure safe and effective use of medications in patients with cardiovascular disease, as members of interprofessional health care teams.

1835C0207X - Under the Pharmacy Service Providers; Pharmacist was added:
Compounded Sterile Preparations
A licensed pharmacist who has demonstrated specialized knowledge and skill to ensure that sterile preparations meet the clinical needs of patients, satisfying quality, safety, and environmental control requirements, regulations, and standards in all phases of preparation, storage, transportation, and administration.

A licensed pharmacist who has demonstrated specialized knowledge and skill in the use of microbiology and pharmacology to develop, implement, and monitor drug regimens that incorporate antimicrobials to optimize therapy for patients.

Solid Organ Transplant
A licensed pharmacist who has demonstrated specialized knowledge and skill delivering direct patient care and the safe and effective use of medications for patients in all phases of solid organ transplantation.

The National Uniform Claim Committee (NUCC) has released the semi-annual update to the Health Care Provider Taxonomy code set, which will go into effect on April 1, 2023. The complete code set is available at: www.nucc.org/taxonomy. Changes to the code set are listed in the “Modifications” tab under the Code Sets and Provider Taxonomy headings on the NUCC website.

The Health Care Provider Taxonomy code set is maintained by the NUCC. The NUCC is a voluntary organization of health care industry stakeholders representing providers, payers, designated standards maintenance organizations, public health organizations, and vendors.
