NUCC Releases Updates to the Health Care Provider Taxonomy Code Set
The National Uniform Claim Committee (NUCC) has released the semi-annual update to the Health Care Provider Taxonomy code set, which will go into effect on April 1, 2020. The complete code set is available at: www.nucc.org/taxonomy. The PDF download version of the code set is also available on the website.
When reviewing the Health Care Provider Taxonomy code set online, revisions made since the last release can be identified by the color code; modified items are orange.
The Health Care Provider Taxonomy code set is maintained by the NUCC. The NUCC is a voluntary organization of health care industry stakeholders representing providers, payers, designated standards maintenance organizations, public health organizations, and vendors. - Starting January 1, 2020 you must use the Medicare Beneficiary Number (MBI) when submitting Medicare claims and eligibility requests.
- CMS will begin rejecting claims and eligibility requests submitted with the Health Insurance Claim Number (HICN).
